FAQs - booking Guyana flights

  • What kind of transportation is available in Georgetown when flying to Guyana?

The first thing to know about transportation in Guyana is that the roads are often poor. Taxis are available, and for long trips, you can often negotiate a good rate with the driver. Car rentals are scarce in Guyana, but there are a few available at the airport. Know that you will need an International Driver's Permit and a local driving permit good for one month.

  • What documentation do I need to fly to Guyana?

For travel in Guyana, a valid passport with the appropriate dates for your visit is required. It’s a good habit to carry a second identification document, which could be an insurance card, military ID, or driver’s license. A travel visa is not required, but it’s always a good idea to contact the US Consulate in Georgetown for updates before you travel.

  • Are there one-stop flights in the late afternoon from New York to Guyana?

While there are no direct flights, one- or two-stop flights depart daily with reasonable layover times. Most of the flights depart in the late afternoon to evening. Some of the returning flights are nonstop, so your flight home will be shorter. Check the schedules daily in the event of route changes.

  • Should I get overseas insurance for my trip from New York to Guyana?

Medical services in the country are poor and very few ambulances are available. Visitors are recommended to get overseas medical insurance and have the proper documents because most medical establishments only accept cash as payment. Be sure to research the procedures needed to use your insurance in Guyana because Medicare does not work there. If you are traveling with medications, make certain you have the original containers and all documents relating to the drugs. You should also have medical bracelets and/or medical documentation that explains your disability or illness.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from New York to Guyana?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from New York to Guyana.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from New York to Guyana?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight to Guyana from New York is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from New York to Guyana?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly to Guyana with an airline and back to New York with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from New York to Guyana?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to Guyana from New York up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Guyana

  • Morning departure is around 8% cheaper than an evening flight, on average*.
  • American Airlines has many one-stop flights from New York to Guyana, and some of the return flights are nonstop to New York. The domestic layover airports are usually the larger hubs like LaGuardia or Chicago.
  • Three airports serve Guyana, and the largest is Georgetown/Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO). This airport features nonstop passenger flights to six destinations in five countries and offers dining and shopping.
  • Guyana enforces child restraint seats in all vehicles but does not specify age or weight guidelines. It’s best to follow national rules and have children under 25 pounds secured in car seats designed to protect children. Before renting a car or taking a taxi, check with the companies for information on child car seats.
  • For air travel within Guyana, Lethem Airport offers one direct flight to Georgetown OGL. The flight takes about an hour and is a smart alternative to driving.
  • At Georgetown/Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO), it is recommended that passengers check in early. Most airlines open kiosks four hours in advance of departures. Be sure to read the checked bag rules, as some items may not be allowed in luggage on these flights that would be permitted on domestic flights.
  • There’s only one airport to fly into from New York to Guyana. It’s worth investigating the different New York airports and keeping an eye on flights and prices. Often reduced fares are available when you compare airports in the New York area, and one airport might be more convenient or less crowded.

The seats had plenty of leg room and the staff were very nice.

Copa performed as expected for the amount of money I was willing to spend for the flight; it wasn’t exceptional but it was not bad in any way either. The crew was good; friendly and straightforward. The food was airplane food, so no expectations there and the entertainment was lacking but that was my fault for owning an IPhone with a charging port that’s not compatible with the rest of the world. I’d fly Copa again.

Left my bags in origin city on a business class ticket , spent about 2-3 days in the same clothes plus the flight .

the planes are not modern there are no phone chargers

As usual, the flight with normal legroom was not very comfortable, but the second flight was much better because we had paid for extra legroom. It was very nice to check our bags without an extra fee.

LOCKED MY BAG WITHOUT CONSENT. Had to have my zippers cut upon arrival in Costa Rica.

Pros: "The seats in economy were confortable. The best thing was Copa gave us seats in the second line and my family traveled together."
Cons: "Coffe service could better the experience"
Pros: "The crew was very interested on help and attentive with the passengers. But the seat wasn't comfortable. The design of the cushion is not the best to be seating"
Pros: "You were on time, that is the most important thing in a fly"
Cons: "You could improve your entertainment, you are not a cheap company"
Pros: "That there was seltzer"
Cons: "The management of preparing the flight and plane so that it was ready for the trip!!"

I was treated well in first class. I have no complaints. I will definitely fly with my favourite airline again this year.

There was no music on the flights unless you came with your headset.

Their bar selection could be greatly improved; they only had one spirit option

Music would have been great and information about the flight. Meaning how high and the weather conditions.

It was good but the food was small for the duration of the flight.

I wrote to the entertainment and food OK because it was non-applicable All excellent

Checking in online still requires going on the physical check in line

I enjoyed the smooth flow and well coordinated boarding and the very courteous attitude from the cabin crew We look forward to flying with ya’ll again

Pleasant experience checking in. Seating is way too tight, especially for persons who are not petite. I thought the pilot was excellent in terms of his commentary and information. Wrong gate information on boarding passes. If I was not alert I could have lined up to board the wrong plane.

The crew was excellent, check in was easy ,the food wasn't good, movies should be recent and more selections

The flight was excellent. The crew was welcoming and attentive.

Going through JFK’s security is a mess. The TSA security said no shoes on the bins. So, we place our shoes in the belt and they came out all over the belt. Boarding was delayed and Flight as well.

There were multiple delays but JetBlue tried to make the boarding and departure process as quick and efficient as possible. The crew was as detached from reality as could be, meaning: not very friendly and just doing things by the numbers.

Jetblue needs to improve on Onboarding as it seems to always be behind on departing. It never leaves on time. I would recommend to have an earlier Onboarding in order to leave on time and respect your customers time as well.

40 minute delay before take off after boarding flight. Bright lights throughout night flight due Issues with light panels. In flight Entertainment nonfunctional

I booked this flight using JetBlue points and I was just so happy. The plane was so clean, I had every need met. Thank you!!

Another horrible Jet Blue experience. This airline has suffered the biggest decline of all from best to worst. TVs didn’t work (again). internet was temperamental. Boarded late and couldn’t get organized to serve snacks.

I hate their constant delays! It’s as if I cannot confidently make plans for timing when I'm traveling with them. I slept through it, so all I can say is it was good.

The staff at JFK were rude and unhelpful. I was harassed for the same bag that I used on my flight to jfk with no issues claiming it was the inappropriate size. The women then allowed my travel companion to board with the same size bag because they thought she was more “humble”. Also on the flight when informing the flight attendant that nationals no longer have to fill out the Bahamas immigration form my statement was met with eye rolling and attitude.

One of the crew members, a male complained about my bag being too heavy, which I felt was really unnecessary. I am disabled and would have carried it myself if I thought it was going to be a problem. In addition the landing was rough because everyone gasped in unison which it touched down.

Original plane sidelined. Had to wait an hour for replacement.

Fantastic. Smooth boarding with an infant. Never experienced it with any other carriers.

An hour and a half late is UNACCEPTABLE. The negative impact to our family is unconscionable. And for the price we were forced to pay...

Flight was delayed 2.5 hours - a big deal on an overnight when you plan to sleep.

I feel like they have upgraded the app since I last flew United and I found it to be super helpful. I had stopped flying United unless absolutely necessary and my experience on this trip indicates they have been working hard to improve their services.

flight delays, staff only communicating when pushed, food service lasting a grand total of 7 minutes, stuck in seat from 45mins into flight until landing

Nice flight, nice crew but no cookie or napkin with my seltzer.

The flight was canceled. Got rebooked to Chicago and when we arrived our luggage where to there. They were going to our original destination the day after. They would not deliver them to our house. We had to go pick them up.

EWR terminal C United Club is great. Flight and everything else mediocre

737 Max was leaking water into the cabin through the windows. Overhead bins opened on landing. Bad bad plane.

The preferred seats where awful. Impossible to use them again

Delayed multiple times. Boarding was ok but getting off the aircraft was a mess. So disorganized with staff trying to help the elderly but completely blocking path for anyone else to move. Bathroom was disgusting, probably caused by one of the customers but staff couldn't care less to help clean it. No one wanted to use it since the floor was completely soaked so everyone just lined up the other restroom while the staff just chit chat with each other while looking at us.

I was in business class. There was an excellent headset. But half an hour before arrival they collected them! The rest of the trip I had to use a cheap earphone. There must be a better way to protect the headphones.

WiFi connected but only let you go to the AA website, not even text messaging worked.

I think the seats on some of their planes are uncomfortable. You can be ok on a short flight of two hours but no more than that. The delays, and also the refreshments on the plane were not enough.

Awful customer service on the phone. No phone number on the website to call a real person. Website says changes are no charge but this is a lie. I had a cheaper ticket through Kayak therefore Finnair wouldn’t change it unless I would pay the entire fare again. I begged but their agents at the airport were rude and the online chat person cut off the call with no help. Super disappointed. Wont fly this airline again and will tell everyone I meet how bad it is. Crew on the flight was nice but otherwise huge disappointment.

The flight was excellent, provided that we had inclement weather. We departed earlier than scheduled and arrived early. There was a little turbulence, but nothing to be worried about.

It was less than what is expected for a business class ticket I thought that the staff actively ignored me because I either looked Indian or Hispanic to them and I guess I did not deserve their attention. The food which included a beef entree was not available so not enough food was ordered for number of seats available. I will say experience in Greenwich lounge was very good and the staff there at the airport were very nice. May be your crew needs to learn about racial equity so that everyone gets either the same aweful treatment or hopefully the best treatment which is what we expect I recommend you take a flight with Singapore airlines that I have taken and the crew remember your last names and use it to address each person, food never finishes if you are at the back of business class and crew anticipate your need even before you articulate. Same price and 100 times better service than American Airlines

pleased with overall experienced, but seats in coach are tight.

Don't often sit in 1st class. Our experience was great.
